Coop Agrilait
A company built by local people
In the late 1930s in Saint-Guillaume, Quebec, dairy producers recovering from a major economic crisis sought to take control of their product sales to maximize their returns.
It was then that approximately fifty local farmers decided to establish a cooperative named "La Société Coopérative Agricole de Beurrerie de Saint-Guillaume." Shortly thereafter, members built a butter and cheese processing plant, which began operations in 1940.
In November 2021, following a merger with three other cooperatives, La Coop Agrilait evolved into a full-fledged dairy processing company named AGRILAIT S.E.C. Its other business sectors were transferred to a newly formed regional cooperative created for this purpose, Agiska Coopérative.
