Le Gratiné St-Guillaume Cheese-Stuffed Onion Rings

A true guilty pleasure, many of us love fried onion rings. But admit it—this version stuffed with Le Gratiné pizza mozzarella cheese makes them simply irresistible! They make excellent appetizers to share. Plus, the recipe only requires six ingredients (which you probably already have at home). The steps are easy to follow, too. We bet you’ll want to try making them as soon as possible!

Cheese-Stuffed Onion Rings

  • 100 g (3 oz) of Le Gratiné St-Guillaume cheese
  • 1 large onion or 2 medium onions
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) all-purpose flour
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Canola oil for frying

Homemade marinara sauce (optional)

  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 250 ml (1 cup) canned stewed tomatoes, drained
  • 5 ml (1 tsp) sugar
  • Fresh basil, finely chopped; salt and freshly ground pepper

  • Slice the cheese.
  • Peel and cut the onion into rings the same width as the cheese slices. Separate the rings.
  • Insert cheese slices between two onion rings, as shown below. Repeat until you run out of cheese and/or onions.
  • Bread each cheese-stuffed onion ring assembly by dipping them first in flour, then in the eggs, and finally in the breadcrumbs. Make sure they are well coated. Set aside.
  • Preheat frying oil to 180°C (350°F).
  • Fry the breaded onion rings until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • Serve with homemade or store-bought marinara sauce.
